• My green idea would be this:
I would start my class with a video from you tube called MAN by Steve Cutts.
The video tells the story of how man destroyed the world in a sense
From there, I would start my class and connect with green vocabulary , which they will need to participate actively in my classes!

    • The other day I showed MAN by Steve Cutts to my students. And the MAN 2020. They couldn’t say much afterwards, they were very distraught. I even thought to make a lesson with this video, but it brings so many topics. So good choice of video!

      • It’s a very interesting video indeed – certainly very visceral, evoking lots of strong emotions. What age of learner did you show this to? In my context, I could imagine I could use this with older and more mature teens at B2 level or higher – I’d be quite wary about doing this with anyone younger, or more immature as I must say I thought some…Read More

        • Sorry, I wanted to put that into paragraphs, but forgot about the ENTER to send thing!

        • I showed the video to my older students (they are 15 years old). I am always careful with media materials. I would rather not show than show it if I have a shred of doubt. Concerning what they watch with 15 (unfortunately), it wasn’t so schocking as to watch, I would rather say it made them think about our planet. So I would recommend it from 1…Read More

  • I really believe all the ones you mentioned are great
I loved the one that says ask a lot of questions, dont lecture
as I tend to do that
Empowering is a good idea too
I would add the point of taking action and seeing the result of their actions
as I think that is the most rewarding point for them

  • I guess the hot tips will be basically connected with taking action and showing enthusiasm for what you teach!

    • @marcela-villan Enthusiasm is such a vital ingredient, isn’t it? One of the challenges I face in materials development is trying to make them usable for a teacher who might be less enthusiastic about the topic than we are. It’s tricky but also vital to avoid only having the enthusiastic teachers on the topic dealing with it in class!

      • Great comment! It’s difficult to make materials and make people more enthusiastic on these topics.

      • Owain, what do you think about publications only taking environment as their organizing theme or content? Nat Geo? They are all great but I think it runs the risk of limited content? What do you think? Or will the students get too fed up with such? To make something more effective, healthy intervals are necessary – scientifically proven as well, I…Read More

    • I agree, too. For those of us dealing with teenagers, this can be a huge challenge. I remember, as a moody teenager, laughing at the enthusiasm of certain teachers. In time, however, true enthusiasm did become infectious. I would add persistence to that enthusiasm for motivated teachers, but feel a little stumped about how to get less energetic…Read More
